Jane Rasor

April 16, 1931 — November 25, 2020

Barbara "Jane" Brown Rasor, 89, passed away on Nov. 25 at Mason Health Care Center in Mason, Ohio, after contracting COVID-19.
Jane was born in Canton, Ohio, on April 16, 1931, to Harold Frederick Brown and Mary Florence (Allison). Working as an engineer for Marathon Oil Company, Harold was transferred several times and moved the family to many locations during Jane's childhood before settling in Findlay, Ohio. Jane attended Findlay High School, where she met her future husband Ralph Eugene Rasor Jr. She went on to attend The Ohio State University where she graduated with a degree in dental hygiene and a lifelong love for the OSU Buckeyes.

Jane and Ralph were married in Findlay in 1955. After Ralph completed his medical degree from Ohio State, the two moved to Colorado where he completed his residency. They moved back to Ohio, settling in Van Wert in 1957 where they raised their four daughters. Jane worked part time as a dental hygienist and was an active volunteer in the community, serving as a deacon for the First Presbyterian Church, member and president of the Van Wert County Hospital TWIG Association, and founding member of the Elks Club Swim Team. She also earned a real estate license in 1983 and worked in residential real estate sales for several years.

Jane is survived by her four daughters, Jennifer Whittaker (Ron) of Huber Heights, Ohio, Barbara Killin (Jeff) of Flower Mound, Texas, Susan Dunn (Patrick) of Carmel, Indiana, and Mimi Rasor of Mason, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth of Loveland, Ohio, Emily and Kaity of Cincinnati, Allison of Carmel, Jordan and Abbey of Dallas, Phillip, Evan, Erika, and Rachel of Mason; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Henry of Loveland; and seven nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Ralph; parents, Harold and Florence; and brother-in-law, Philip.

Jane lit up a room when she entered. She had an infectious smile and laugh and quickly made lasting friendships. She was a long-time member of a bridge club in Van Wert and as an only child, built a network of friends in the community that felt more like family. Those who knew her well appreciated her love of jazz and big band music, her dry sense of humor, and her propensity to have a hamburger any time of day. Jane and Ralph frequented Clear Lake, Indiana, where they owned a cottage with friends. She loved fishing and taught her young children to hunt for nightcrawlers, much to their dismay. Jane was one of a kind who touched so many lives with her positivity and kindness. She will be missed by many.

Jane's family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, 722 S Washington St, Van Wert, OH. Jane will be buried next to her husband, Ralph, in Woodland Cemetery during a private family ceremony Sunday, August 15, 2021.

The family asks that anyone who has not been vaccinated against Covid-19 to wear a mask and social distance while attending the visitation.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the Mason Health Care Center who treated her with love, kindness, and compassion through her end of life care. They loved Jane like family and were nearly as heartbroken by her passing as her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Van Wert Health TWIG Association, the Wassenberg Art Center, or the First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert.
